Board move: tap a piece, then tap a highlighted square. ENTER is only for typed notation.

AI handoff settings
Choose which AI opens when you press A-PROMPT SEARCH. Your choice is remembered. The handoff is built around the live FEN position and asks the AI to return a copy-back move.
Show Aletheia handoff text
Demo Coach
Aletheia plays both sides using the WINK-style move choice, briefly explains why, waits, then makes the move. In Demo Coach, White uses a one-move look-ahead and Black uses the selected think-ahead depth (1–5). In Play Aletheia, the selected depth is used for both colours. Use this as a teaching demonstration rather than engine-strength play.
Game file
Save the current position and game history as a portable .md file, then load it later to resume.
AI window size
Browsers on phones may ignore requested popup dimensions and open a normal tab. These settings are used where the browser allows a resizable popup.
Move: tap a piece, then tap one of its highlighted legal squares. You can also type e4, Nf3 or e2-e4.
Play Aletheia: you play the colour at the bottom of the board. With White at the bottom, you move first and Aletheia replies as Black. FLIP makes you Black, so Aletheia plays White first. Aletheia replies automatically after the selected delay.
Trainer: for two people at a real board. Enter each move here. Select a piece to see where it may legally move. BEGINNER explains pieces and special rules; LEARNING focuses on ideas; QUIET COACH speaks mainly when something important happens.
HINT: speaks candidate options and reasons without choosing for you. If a piece is selected, HINT concentrates on that piece. If nothing is selected, it discusses useful candidate pieces/moves for the side whose turn it is.
WINK ◼: gives one strongest candidate. For White it evaluates only the immediate move. For Black it searches further through likely replies: Black has gone to the Dark Side. It never deliberately gives White false advice. Every WINK use is logged and declared at END GAME.
Voice: Trainer advice is spoken as well as shown below the board. The app prefers an Australian voice named Charlotte when the device provides one; otherwise choose another voice from the list.
END GAME: if WINK was used, Aletheia must disclose the Dark Side assistance, how often it was used, and whether concrete Black move help was given. The result should be treated as ASSISTED where relevant.
Special moves: the app knows castling, promotion and en passant — the special pawn capture that can occur immediately after an adjacent pawn advances two squares.
Photo: use 📷 LOAD BOARD PHOTO to choose/take a board picture. This local page previews it. Ask an AI with vision to convert the position to FEN, then paste that FEN into LOAD FEN.
AI bridge: this static file keeps API keys out. A-PROMPT SEARCH sends the current FEN and game context to ChatGPT/Odysseus.
Undo / Flip / New Game: UNDO reverts one entered move, FLIP rotates the board, and NEW GAME resets the position and asks for a mode.
Save / Load Game: near the bottom of the page, SAVE GAME downloads a portable Markdown game file containing the current position and history. LOAD GAME resumes from one of those files.
Demo Coach: lower down the page, choose 5–60 seconds and start a self-play teaching demonstration. Aletheia suggests a move for each side, gives a short chess reason, waits, then plays it automatically. In Demo Coach, White looks one move ahead and Black uses the selected 1–5 move think-ahead depth. In Play Aletheia, both colours use the selected depth.
AI window size: desktop browsers can use your preferred popup width and height. Mobile browsers may ignore popup dimensions and open a normal tab; this is controlled by the browser rather than the chess app.
Suggested moves: HINT and WINK put candidate moves into the move box. Use ▲ / ▼ or keyboard Up/Down arrows to cycle them, then press ENTER to play the move shown.
WINK: during play it stays discreet. It gives its suggestion directly without repeated preamble. Easter-egg details are not announced during ordinary play.
Thalia: optional. When enabled, WINK may add a short original sci-fi/sitcom/chess-style quip. HINT remains instructional.
VIBE: choose a light chess personality lens such as Flying Mouse, Magnus, Kasparov, AlphaZero or Stockfish. It changes how the coach frames ideas; it does not claim to reproduce that player or engine exactly. Your last choice is remembered.
Voice: spoken advice is deliberately short. Detailed options remain in the transcript and move selector.
A-PROMPT SEARCH: tries to copy the complete live chess-coach prompt first, then opens your chosen AI. If the browser blocks clipboard access, open the handoff text and use COPY FULL A-PROMPT or copy it manually. A failed copy can leave older clipboard text, such as a FEN, unchanged.
AI handoff settings: lower down the page you can choose ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, DeepSeek or Grok. The choice is remembered. The handoff-text box below is kept filled with the current position as a visible/manual fallback.
FEN handoff: A-PROMPT SEARCH sends the exact current position as a FEN-first prompt, together with side to move, recent moves and VIBE.
Thalia: when THALIA is ON, WINK speaks a short quip after the main chess advice. HINT remains purely instructional.
A-PROMPT return: the external AI is asked to compare all nine VIBEs, group identical move suggestions together, and finish with a plain MOVE: ... line. Copy that final line back into the move box and press ENTER.
Game review / learning: when move history is available, the A-PROMPT also asks the AI to identify useful key moments, explain important mistakes, suggest better plans, and help the player learn without inventing engine scores or accuracy figures.
