Dragon shelf

The series you were remembering is Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern, beginning with Dragonflight. Use it as a historical inspiration point only; Aletheia's Dragonfolds and Spider Dragons should have their own biology, societies and travel rules.

Dragonflight

Spider Dragon science spark: real spiders can disperse by ballooning on silk. Research also shows natural-strength vertical electric fields can trigger ballooning behaviour and contribute to take-off, alongside aerodynamic effects. That is a strong real-science seed for an original small dragon that deploys charged filaments or membranes.

Electric Fields Elicit Ballooning in Spiders

Originality rule

Story Forge extracts mechanisms such as hidden institution, comic bureaucracy, creature-with-a-troublesome-desire, or a small choice with consequences. It should not reproduce protected characters, distinctive scenes, terminology, worlds or another author's prose.
